Our Camp Counselors

Lauren Gilliam
Lauren is our head counselor at Camp Coquina. She is a local musician, artist, DONA certified doula, certified lactation counselor and mother of one 8 year old. She is the oldest for four children and has been working with children her entire life. Originally wanting to go into social work, she switched to become an art major in college and got her bachelors in fine arts with a concentration in glass blowing. She moved to St Augustine in 2009 to work as a full time glass assistant. She also got certified as a DONA doula in 2010.

Ava Grundvig
Ava Grundvig is a Florida native and currently, she is the Handwork teacher and assisting in Second Grade at Star Song School after originally joining the staff as the Handwork teacher (fiber arts) and Aftercare teacher. As a child, she spent much time sailing, camping, and reading. As a teenager, Ava was very interested in art, beginning with drawing and branching out into painting, crocheting, sewing, and baking. When she was 18, with her father's help, she began the restoration of her own sailboat, and gained a love for carpentry as well.
She has worked as a nanny and in childcare, and where she continues to find new ways to enjoy nature and art with her students. Ava lives with her partner, dog and three cats and enjoys cooking, riding her bike, and swimming.

Galen Curry
Galen comes from a large, tight-knit family and has been caring for and entertaining children since he was a teenager. He’s been a music instructor, a substitute teacher, and was a professional nanny for many years. Galen loves games, music, and being silly. Most of his time is spent touring and recording with his family folk-rock band The Currys (www.thecurrysmusic.com)
